Ranchi: 01 Feb 2011: Rajbhavan, Ranchi notified the appointment of new vice chancellor of Ranchi University on Wednesday. Dr. Laxmi Narayan Bhagat, director of Institute of Science and Management has been appointed as the new VC of RU.
A four member search committee was formed at Rajbhavan including Justice R.K. Merathia as the nominee of Chief Justice Prakash Chandra Tatia, chief secretary S.K. Chaudhary, principal secretary to the governor A.K. Pandey and ex-VC of RU Dr. K.K. Nag after the second term of Dr. A.A. Khan as a VC came to an end on December 31 2011.
A total of 146 applications came in for the post among which L.N. Bhagat was chosen as the new VC. Dr. Bhagat has earlier been the registrar in RU for six years from January 2003 to September 2008. He has also been a senior professor of economics in RU from 2008 to 2010 and principal of three constituent colleges of RU from September 1994 to December 2002. Currently he was at the position of director at ISM Ranchi since August 2010.
After being appointed as the VC, Dr. Bhagat visited Ranchi Universtiy and met all the university staff. “I will work for the benefit of all following the rules and regulations and will not go beyond them”, said Dr. Bhagat.
Since the retirement of Dr. A.A. Khan, pro VC Dr. V.P. Sharan was appointed as the acting V.C. for the month of January.
Another appointment has been made at the post of VC of Siddhu Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka. Dr. Ram Yatan Prasad who was serving as head of chemistry department at Vinoba Bhave University has been appointed as the new VC of Siddhu Kanhu University.
