New Master Plan For Ranchi

The area of the state capital is likely to be extended by a kilometer beyond the upcoming ring road in the proposed master plan for Ranchi's planned development. The urban development department has already invited tenders for appointing a consultant to prepare a new master plan for Ranchi.

The present master plan was prepared in 1983, when Ranchi was a small town. However, after it became Jharkhand's capital in 2000, it witnessed a huge influx of people. Several new offices, both government and private, have come up here. The state capital's population has also increased manifold making the new master plan a necessity. The state government never adopted that master plan which created confusion over the sanction of the housing plans.

The new master plan will not only carter to the functions related to the seat of government but will also include multi-sectoral facilities in trade and commerce, industry, residential and other sectors in order to make it a vibrant and dynamic city which is self contained and self sustaining, with state of the art physical, social and other infrastructure, said a senior officer of urban development department.

Vice-Chairman -cum-deputy commission Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) KK Soan said that a detail proposal has been sent to the urban development department to take a final decision. All aspects have been taken in the proposal for a clean state capital, he added.

At present, a large number of houses are being constructed on both sides of the ring road. Some major housing complexes are also coming up in an unplanned manner.
