SP, Bokaro, Karthik.S proved himself a ‘Supercop’ by arresting most wanted Hasan Chikna

Bokaro: The superintendent of police (SP), Karthik S proved himself to be a ‘supercop’ by arresting the most wanted kingpin of the gang of thieves, Hasan Sheikh alias Hasan Chikna (37) from Mumbai in connection to the burglary of gold-silver jewelries of worth Rs 11 crores from the 71 lockers of State Bank of India (SBI) administrative Branch of the town. Police have also recovered 5.5 kilograms of stolen gold ornaments and 33.64 lakh cash from the possession of Chikna, which he had kept in a shanty in Nerul area of Mumbai.
Chikna was wanted by police of three states including Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. According to police sources, Chikna is a hardcore thief who with his gang had committed theft in bank and jewelry houses in different parts of the country including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha and others. Jharkhand police had announced reward of Rs 1 lakh on Chikna head, which will be recommended to SP Karthik.S team.
Residents praised SP Karthik S dedication in nabbing Chikna. A eight member special investigative team (SIT) headed by SP, Karthik S spend sleepless nights chasing Chikna and other 12 of his associate who struck SBI lockers on December, 27, 2017. It was biggest ever bank burglary occurred in region, that virtually threw a challenge for Karthik S who had took charge as Bokaro SP merely 20 days earlier to the incident.
Regaining his confidence between criticism, SP formed a SIT comprising finest police officers including DSP, CCR, Rajat Manik Bakhla, DSP, City, Ajay Kumar, police inspectors, Madan Mohan Sinha, Kamal Kishore, Radheshyam Das, Bipin Kumar and sub-inspector Ranjit Kumar. “Assessing the modus operandi, the team identified it was a Sahebganj (Jharkhand) based gang of Hasan Chikna behind the crime”.
Later conducting investigations and raids at Sahebganj, police arrested two members of the gang Salim Sheikh and Jitu Ghosh on January, 2. Based on their statements, SIT got the lead and one by one arrested 11 members apart from mediators and gold smiths who purchased the stolen jewelries. Arrest of Mohammad Akhtar a resident of Howrah on March, 19 proved significant.
Akhtar revealed before SP that the gang had stolen 14 kilograms of gold jewelries and 40 kilogram of Silver ornaments and Rs 1.5 lakh cash from the SBI lockers. Working on it, on April, 18 police arrested Chikna’s wife Firdosi Bibi conducting raid at Joharpur under English police station of Malda in West Bengal. Police recovered 58 pieces of gold jewelries (two kilograms) and cash which were stolen from SBI lockers.
It was Firdosi who had distributed the stolen jewelries among the gang members when Chikna reached home after committing theft in SBI. Arrest of Bibi led police team much closer to Chikna. However when SIT intensified their exercise finding links to nab Chikna, he again on April, 29 committed locker theft in UCO Bank in Civil Lines, Allahabad of Uttar Pradesh and fled to Mumbai with the booty.
He went to Mumbai to his girl friend and stays with her. SP however got a link that Chikna was in Mumbai and sent his three ablest officers including Kamal Kishore, Ranjit Lakra and Ranjit Kumar to arrest him. In the meantime, Allahabad police also got lead of Chikna behind the theft. But before Allahabad police could catch him, the Bokaro police alongwith Mumbai police surveyed the Nerul area posing them as census workers and nabbed Chikna after spotting him in a flat.
Chikna has been brought to Bokaro on Transit Remand. Meanwhile Allahabad police have also arrived with their locker victims to identify the recovered stolen jewelries. Chikna has two wives. First wife stays in his house in native place in Barhara, Sahebganj while second wife is Firdosi Bibi who got arrested from her house in Malda. There are still two members Mohammad Shamim and Hasib absconding in this connection. Besides, police team is in search of a Howrah based builder, Abul Hassan who has financed the burglary in SBI by giving four lakh rupees to Chikna.
Abul purchase stolen items of the theft committed by thieves in train. He has taken three kilogram of gold ornaments from Chikna by giving Rs 30 lakh cash. Against those stolen gold ornaments he took gold from Muthoot Finance and invested the money in real estate business. SP said that raid is being conducted to nab Abul. “Though Chikna has been arrested, but our investigation will be carried on until entire gang got arrested and all the stolen jewelries will be recovered”.
