Police recovered 58 pieces of gold jewelries (two kilograms) and cash which were stolen from 71 lockers of State Bank of India (SBI), Administrative Branch of the town on 26 December, 2017. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Firdosi Bibi, who is the wife of kingpin of Sahebganj based gang Hassan Chikna, by conducting raid at Joharpur under English police station of Malda in West Bengal.
Recovery of stolen jewelries has brought smiles on face of the victims who have lost hope of getting their gold and silvers ornaments back. “We thanked Bokaro police specially SP for arresting criminals and recovery of stolen jewelries. We all have lost hope of getting our stolen jewelries back, but police regained our confidence. We are sure that the team led by SP, Karthik S will arrested all the criminals and recover our stolen jewelries,” said Manish Kumar, a victim who is doctor.
SP, Bokaro, Karthik S, who was monitoring the police team that went to Malda and conducted raid jointly with West Bengal police, said it was the second biggest recovery of stolen gold and silver ornaments in this case. Earlier on April, 12, SIT had recovered 600 grams of gold jewelries, 4.5 kilogram of silver and Rs 1.5 lakh cash from the possession of Sharif Khan alias Raja, who was brother-in-law of Chikna and Mithun Swarankar a goldsmith in Malda.
The SBI locker theft was the biggest ever burglary occurred in any of the bank in this region. Apart from cash, gold and silver jewelries of worth Rs 11 crores were stolen from the SBI lockers. There were 11 members of the gang who committed the crime. Of them, police have arrested eight members apart from two goldsmiths, a mediator, wife and brother-in-law of Chikna.
SP said “we are still on chase for Chikna and his two associates Akbar and Samim who are absconding. They will also be nabbed soon. We have recovered 3.5 kilograms gold, six kilograms silver and 1.67 lakhs cash which are stolen from the lockers till yet. In police interrogation, arrested accused had revealed of stealing 14 kilograms of Gold and 26 kilograms of Silver from the locker”.
It is Firdosi who has distributed the stolen jewelries among the gang members when Chikna reached home after the burglary. Police team recovered the stolen gold jewelries from a bag kept under the dressing table in Firdosi house in English Bazaar. Bringing Firdosi and about two kilogram of stolen gold jewelries from Malda to Bokaro is itself a difficult task.
However Firdosi is tight-lipped till yet. She told police officers that she met Chikna lastly on January, 31. Since then she is neither in communication with Chikna nor has she met him. She also told policemen about their love story and marriage with Chikna who was earlier her tenant. During stay in Firdosi’s house, Chikna fell in love with her. Firdosi went against her parents and eloped with him. Later they married.
