police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions, Rs 3 lakh cash and other incriminating materials
stocked by Maoists from Lugu Hill area under Jogeshwar Vihar Police
Station of the district here on Tuesday.

Bokaro: A joint team of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Bokaro police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions, Rs 3 lakh cash and other incriminating materials stocked by Maoists from Lugu Hill area under Jogeshwar Vihar Police Station of the district here on Tuesday. The recovery was made a day after Gomia By-poll was conducted peacefully. Luggu falls under Gomia constituency.  Sources said that NIA team led by its SP conducted the raid in Luggu. Meanwhile district policemen and CRPF was led by DSP, Bermo, Subhash Chandra Jatt.

“NIA team alongwith district police and CRPF recovered 10 rifles of .303 bore, one 9mm carbine, one 9mm browning pistol, one double barrel gun and two single barrel gun. Besides huge cache of ammunitions, levi receipts and Rs 3 lakh cash were also recovered from the spot. The investigation in the case is continuing,” said NIA sources. The raid was conducted by NIA following information disclosed by arrested Maoist leader Mahavir Manjhi alias Charlees. The accused Manjhi known as Charlees was zonal member of North Chota Nagpur Zonal Committee of banned CPI (Maoists). On March, 6 Charlees was arrested alongwith his 14 Maoist cadres by Jharkhand Police from village Akabakitanr under Dumri police station of Giridih.

During interrogation dine by NIA officials, Charlees disclosed about the weapon dump in the Luggu Hill area, which is one of the most infested Maoist areas in the state. Acting on this information, the NIA team, with the assistance of Jharkhand Police and CRPF recovered weapons and other materials from Luggu under section 27 of Evidence Act, said NIA.

Case was initially registered as FIR No. 26/2018, dtd. 06.03.2018, at PS Dumri, district Giridih, Jharkhand, u/s 141, 121 A, 124A, 120B of IPC, sections 25(1-AA-A)/25(1-b)a/26/35 of Arms Act, sections 3, 4, 5 of Explosive Substance Act, section 17 of Criminal Amendment act and sections 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 of UA(P) Act, which was re-registered as NIA case RC-19/2018/NIA/DLI dtd. 09/05/2018, at NIA police station, New Delhi, added NIA.

Earlier on March, 6 when Charlees was arrested with other Maoists cadres, Jharkhand police had recovered 12 regular weapons, 60 ATM (SBI) cards, 199 letter of thanks issued by Allahabad Bank for opening accounts and 1125 Aadhar cards, besides others, were seized from them in Giridih. However this was the third such recovery of arms and ammunitions done by securitymen from Luggu following Charlees arrest.

A day after Charlees arrested on March, 7, Bokaro police acting on information disclosed by him conducted massive raid in Luggu hill and recovered 11 improvised explosive devices (IED), electric detonators, detonating cord wire apart from other bomb making materials. Later on March, 12 a joint team of district police and CRPF recovered live cartridges of SLR, landmines and bomb making materials from a cave in Luggu Hill.
Charlees is a resident of Chorpaniya village under Gomia Block of the district. Charlees (55) was active from past 20 years and was wanted in 33 naxal cases including in which about 20 securitymen martyred. SP, Karthik S confirmed recovery of arms and ammunition from Luggu. He said that they are waiting for returning of the team from Luggu.
