Cyber peace & security awareness month kicks off in Ranchi

Ranchi: In a bid to create a safe, secure, and resilient cyber environment, Cyber Peace Foundation in collaboration with Citizens Foundation has announced the month of February as Cyber Peace Month.

The major events during the month will comprise of mobile van awareness campaign that will roam around in the city, telephone psychiatric counselling for the cyber addicts, Safer Internet Day in different schools of the city, talk shows in various TV and radio channels, awareness programmes at Ranchi University and Run for Cyber Peace.  

Through a series of events and initiatives across the city, Cyber Peace Month will engage public and private sector partners to raise awareness and educate masses about cyber peace and cyber security, and increase the resiliency of the city and its cyber infrastructure.

On the occasion a mobile van was also jointly flagged off by SN Pradhan ADG, CID, Ganesh Reddy, Secretary Citizens Foundation, Job Zachariah Chief UNICEF and Vineet Kumar, Founder & President, Cyber Peace Foundation.

Addressing the media SN Pradhan, ADG, Crime Investigating Department said, looking at the need of the hour, it is very important that cyber peace is brought into practice. He added that the real world is controlled by cyber world.

Pradhan added that cyber security cannot be brought into practice all alone but what we require is a strong collaboration between all the stakeholders. He urged civil societies, media, public, private, hackers and government sector to work unanimously to tackle the problem that is rapidly spreading in the society.

He stressed the need to engage public and private stakeholders-especially the general public-in a view to create cyber legal awareness in the society. The crime has risen to an alarming level and there are many misconceptions too that has led to the crimes especially involving children. 

The existing stake holders in this domain of cyber space like Telecom Service Providers, Law Enforcement Agencies, Media, Computer Training Institutes, Lawyers, and Banking Sector & Educational Institutes are totally ignorant and least concerned about cyber awareness, he added. 

Ganesh Reddy Secretary Citizens Foundation Said, “With the advent of technology, children have become cyber addicts and are engaged in seeing porn sites that leads to violence against women and is the main reason why crime is increasing day by day.

He added that the next ten years in cyber security are critical to ensure a safe, secure, resilient cyberspace where the modern way of life can thrive. Given the stakes we must remain focused on meeting the challenges of the next ten years.

Constantly evolving cyber threats require the engagement of the entire nation — from government and law enforcement to the private sector and most importantly, the public. We plan to form a information sharing grid across nations” 

He added that Cyber Peace & Cyber Security is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play – from the government and law enforcement, to the private sector, to the general public. This united effort is necessary to maintain a cyberspace that is safer and more resilient and that remains a source of tremendous opportunity and growth for years to come. 

Job Zachariah, Chief UNICEF, Jharkhand, said that Cyberspace is woven into the fabric of our daily lives and the world is more interconnected today than ever before. We enjoy the benefits and convenience that cyberspace provides as we shop from home online, bank using our smart phones, and interact with friends from around the world through social networks but at the same time it is dangerous. “Safe protected environment has vanished; awareness is must for the teachers and children who are vulnerable to cyber staking, bullying and fraud.”

To wrap up Cyber Peace Month, run for cyber peace will take place from FirayalalChowk to main road.
