Khunti: In a novel way to keep the doctors posted in the government hospital on heels the district administration has called for a daily review meeting at 9.30 at night.

The decision was taken by DC Suraj Kumar after a visit to the Sadar Hospital Khunti. In the letter sent to the Civil Surgeon from DC Office it has been mentioned that during Kumar’s visit none of the residential doctors were present in the premises.

The meeting has brought great unrest in the doctor’s fraternity of the district. “It’s not about the district headquarters it about those posted in the interiors. Khunti has always been known for red terror. There are areas like Arki and Rania that are high on crime. How are the health officials expected to take life threat and move at night,” told a PHC in-charge on condition on anonymity.

Kumar, however, said that there is no security concern for the health employees. “There has been no Naxal incident in the district in the past six months. Further, the extremist never target doctors or health employee,” he added.

Kumar said that the progress of health schemes running in the district is very slow. “The problem is that the doctors posted in Khunti do not live here. They live in Ranchi. For those staying in district headquarters late night meetings can’t be a problem,” he said.

The DC was on a visit of the Sadar Hospital to review that progress of the Measles- Rubela vaccination program in the district, last Monday, when he called for the doctors on duty. The Civil Surgeon then informed Kumar that none of the doctors stayed in the premises.

“We shall continue having this late night meetings untill the health programmes being run by the government catch up pace in the district. The doctors posted here should stay here for the citizens and work for a continusely healthy society,” Kumar concluded.
