All is not well with Jharkhand’s First International Film Festival
A flamboyant website, 27 celebrity speakers and six Jury members from Bollywood is the first look of the Jharkhand International Film Festival. Name a celebrity and its there – from International heartthrob Priyanka Chopra to legendary director like Mahesh Bhatt.
But things don’t seem to be going as planned with the first of its kind event in Jharkhand. While some of the celebrities have backed out, some would not be able to make it because of the budget constrains while the rest awaits confirmation from the organizers.
The tale does not end here. The initial organizing committee of the festival, which consisted of prominent faces from film and theater of the state, resigned claiming non participation and non disclosure of funds. The government too seems to be going on back foot.
“We all have resigned as we were not even informed about the fund collected as well as the expenditure. We felt that the funds are being misused,” shared an ex member on condition of anonymity.
Priyanka Chopra won’t be able to make it to the event as the organizing committee does not have enough funds for her commute from Mumbai, said Rishi Prakash Mishra, Chairman of the organizing committee. He also confirmed that a few more celebrities that were named won’t be able to make it.
Singer Anoop Jalota said that he does have information about the event and is happy for it. “Jharkhand has a great prospect for art and culture. I have had talks to come of the film festivals and I am waiting for further information,” Jalota told News Wing.
Information and Public Relation department on question of being part of the event cleared that they are supporting the Film Festival and are not part of it. “The organizers initially did use our logo and the photos of honorable Prime Minister and Chief Minister in their brochure but we have asked them to remove it after it was brought to notice,” claimed IPRD officials.
Meanwhile, the officials of Tourism, Art and Culture department and directorate denied having any information about this film festival and their association with it.
Untouched by all the hiccups the film fraternity of the state is excited with the mega event. “This is an event that is going to give recognition to the local artists as well as the film makers. The motive being organizing the film guild in Jharkhand by the government was to promote the State and this event would surely be a milestone in the endeavour,” actor-producer P Vijay Raghwan told News Wing.
