The Governor of Punjab in Pakistan, Salmaan Taseer was assassinated by a policeman who fired twenty Seven bullets, before surrendering himself with a sinister smile to a dozen security policemen around him. Taseer was killed by the bodyguard who was that morning assigned to protect him.

Ground is sleeping beneath the feet of the Congress Party. To keep the flock under one roof is a different thing and to lead the Nation is quite another. To me it appears that Sonia Gandhi has picked up her advisors wrong. Once she decided and rightly so, that she will nothold the office of Prime Minister of India, her obvious next step was to promote her sibling in politics.

With total washout of winter session of Parliament, the Government is preparing itself to ensure that the Budget Session that begins in third week of February next does not meet the same fate. Two months are left before commencement of the next Parliament session and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to push for major reshuffle in his Council of Ministers.
The govt has for quite some time been making a big noise that it is going to develop the naxal-affected districts in such a way that naxalism will fail to attract young Adivasis to its fold in future. At last it has come out with this Special plan for Naxal-hit districts as per which each of the 35 naxal-affected districts would get Rs 25 crore every year for undertaking developmental work in healthcare, schooling, sanitation and drinking water sectors.

Caesar’s wife has to be above suspicion! The appointment of P J Thomas as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner is indefensible. When the objection raised by Sushma Swaraj, the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha was rejected by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the Home Minister P Chidambaram over the government’s preference to Thomas as the new CVC it smacked of total disregard to probity in appointment of the CVC which is a Constitutional office.
Since inception of the state, the Jharkhand government has been carrying on anti-naxal operations and building up the people friendly police in the state simultaneously. In the recent development, Neyaz Ahmed, the director general of police and the executive officer of the ‘operation green hunt’, who is also the first top cop in the history of Jharkhand to get promotion after retirement, has promised to make his police men the ‘people friendly’.
