Lathi Charge On ABVP Students At Raj Bhavan
Ranchi: A large number of ABVP students tried to Gherao the Raj Bhavan to oppose the nearly two month old strike of the staff of the three universities in Jharkhand. While attempting to break the barricade outside the Raj Bhavan, the police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the unruly crowd.
The police also used water cannons. The protesting students were mercilessly beaten and dozens of students were injured. The Magistrate on duty at the spot however denied the lathi charge.
Thousands of staff of the three universities are on strike for nearly 60 days and the administrative work was being hampered, causing great inconvenience to the students.
It may be recalled that the students had blocked the Kanke road for more than three hours just a few days back and were assured by the VC that outside help was being sought to restore normalcy within a week.
