Babulal Offers Seat To Shibu- Challenges Him To Fight By-Election
Ranchi: In an open challenge to CM Shibu Soren, the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) Supremo Babulal Marandi offered him to fight from any of the eleven seats held by JVM, as Shibu’s own family members (read Hemant & Sita Soren) are seemingly reluctant to vacate their seats for father and father-in-law respectively. The same legislator resigning from JVM would contest against the CM asserted Marandi. Babulal Marandi was staging a dharna outside the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday to protest the unconstitutional manner in which Shibu was clinging to the CM seat without being a member & taking undue advantage of the technical provision of the constitution. He dared the CM to accept the challenge or resign without further delay.
It may be recalled that initially Hemant Soren had offered to resign from his Dumka seat to pave way for his father but later retracked from his statement as did Shibu’s daughter-in-law Sita Soren for the Jama seat. She is bargaining for lucrative alternatives including a plum post in a Board and Rajya Sabha/Lok Sabha seat for her family members. The entire matter is in suspended animation as nothing concrete has emerged so far.
Babulal Marandi alleged that Shibu Soren was making a mockery of the technical provision of the constitution by becoming CM of the State three times without being a member all the three times. This is setting a bad precedent for the State.
Babulal Marandi has threatened to move the court in the matter as in 2001, a High Court bench had ruled that no one can assume the office of Cm without getting elected under section 164 of the constitution. Marandi also objected to the process of Shibu’s handing over the reins to his son as he was totally against any further experimentation in the State. He clearly emphasized that either Shibu should contest the by elections or resign.
Babulal wondered why both BJP & AJSU were behaving like mute spectators to the entire drama. Obviously both the Parties were keener on clinging to their posts than bother about ideologies. BJP’s stand was questionable in many ways and even their own Party members in the State were against such an alliance, quipped Marandi.
Party leaders Pradeep Yadav and Saba Ahmed also expressed their feelings.
