55th National School Archery Championship Begins in Ranchi

Ranchi: The 55th National School Archery Championship was formally inaugurated by Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium at Mohrabadi Ranchi on Sunday. The two deputy CMs Raghubar Das and Sudesh Mahto were also present along with him. The three of them shot of arrows from their bows to mark the beginning of the five day event. The participating school presented an impressive march past and later the CM let off colorful balloons to render a festive atmosphere at the venue.

The event is being organized by the department of Art, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports. Sudesh Mahto is the minister for the department too. A huge crowd was present at the stadium to cheer the participants from the State. It was a touching moment when CM Shibu Soren showered special affection on the children from Maharashtra and spent time cheering them up. The gesture was appreciated by standing applause for the CM. 18 States have sent the students of various schools for participating in the championship

Jharkhand bagged four out of the six prizes at stake. Both the under 14 boys and girls’ team won the second and third prizes in both the events. Sumeeta Buiyan of West Bengal won the first prize in girls while the second and third were bagged by Lakshmi Purthi and Indrani Kujur respectively. Orissa’s Suryamani Majhi won the first prize in the boy’s event and the second and third won by Deepak Kumar and Samu Sardar..
