Ballot Triumphs Over Bullets
Ranchi: The fourth phase of elections witnessed an overall 58.6 percent of voting, thus marking the triumph of ballot over the bullets. The people of the 14 constituencies came out to vote fearlessly in large numbers scoffing the Naxal threat. In Ichagarh the Maoists had issued a dictate to locals to refrain from coming out to vote but the electorate ignored the threat and registered 70% votes.
With heavy security on a continuous vigil the Naxals were forced to remain in their dens. Bahragora registered the maximum percentage with 71% and Manoharpur the lowest with 49%. All the 14 seats that went to poll in the fourth phase were Naxal affected areas and it was remarkable to see Torpa registering 58% votes. Right from morning serpentine queues of voters was witnessed and the tight security ensured that the polls went off smoothly and peacefully. The fifth and final phase is scheduled for 18th December in which the remaining 15 seats will be decided. Nine out of these 15 are in reserved category.
